All Babies are Beautiful

A family flew in from West Virginia to Indiana, in their arms a sweet two-year-old baby named Angel. Unlike other babies, she was diagnosed with Wolf–Hirschhorn syndrome, a condition that affected several systems in her body including her eyes, kidneys, and heart. One out of three children diagnosed with this syndrome lose their lives before they turn two years old. 

Angel and her foster family flew to Indiana to meet a professional photographer named Angela Forker. After loosing a baby that was  born with an uncommon genetic condition, Angela Forker had launched the Precious Baby Project. Her aim was to spread love and awareness for babies with special needs through photography. In these photo sessions, Angela designs beautiful scenes on the floor that show the baby performing a magical or impossible task. In Angel’s photo session, Angela spent  hours getting to know Angel and creating  a scene on the floor using fabric, stuffed animals, and other multicoloured accessories while the baby lay down on top of the scene and being photographed from above. Since Angel’s biological parents had wanted Angel to follow the tradition of the Chinese New Year, Angela Forker created a  scene where Angel and two teddy bears were dressed in sparkly Chinese dresses and had a glittering dragon above their heads.Angela’s unwavering belief is that the baby, no matter what they look like, should be the focal point of the photograph with their disabilities unhidden. 

When the photo session finished, Angel’s parents like many others whose hearts had been lifted by Angela Forker, carried home special photos. Over the years, baby Angel could have difficulties growing up and could have certain obstacles in her path, her condition making it difficult for her to survive. However, Angela Forker’s photos of  Angel would be a beacon of hope for the family, a reminder that babies with special needs are  beautiful and that they are capable of doing anything.
