On Wednesday 8th January, 25-year old singer Justin Bieber posted screenshots of an exclusive TMZ article. The article’s title read “Justin Bieber: Battling Lyme disease and winning”, with inserts of Justin Bieber’s texts where he discussed that his fans had “failed to realise I’ve been recently diagnosed with Lyme disease, not only that but had a serious case of chronic mono which affected my skin, brain function, energy, and overall health.” He also promises further information to come out in a documentary series, “These things will be explained further in a docu series I’m putting on YouTube shortly… you can learn all that I’ve been battling and OVERCOMING!! It’s been a rough couple of years but getting the right treatment that will help treat this so far incurable disease and I will be back and better than ever NO CAP” The 10-part documentary named “Justin Bieber: Seasons” is on the works to be released on January 27th this year and will include additional information about the symptoms he endured in 2019.

The NHS describes Lyme disease as a “bacterial infection that can be spread to humans by infected ticks.” Symptoms of the disease include skin rashes and flu symptoms such as high temperatures, headaches, muscle pain, and loss of energy. According to the American Lyme Disease Foundation, it manifests in a human as a “multisystem inflammatory disease that affects the skin in its early, localised stage, and spreads to the joints, nervous system and, to a lesser extent, other organ systems in its later, disseminated stages.” However, if treated in its early stages, Lyme disease is curable.

Justin Bieber’s wife, Hailey Bieber, addresses the severity of the disease and urges fans not to downplay it. On Twitter she stated, “For those who are trying to downplay the severity of Lyme disease. Please do your research and listen to the stories of people who have suffered with it for years. Making fun of and belittling a disease you don’t know understand is never the way, all it takes is educating yourself.”

Previously, Justin Bieber had kept talking about his new song, yet it kept being delayed. TMZ claims that they have been told that this delay was due to everyone wanting to make sure that he was well enough to release an album and tour. Luckily, Bieber is now being treated with the proper medication and he is ready for his upcoming tour.
