An Interview with Ms Eckhardt

Mibu Tako

Every year, the Marymount Messenger staff interviews teachers who has recently joined the school community. Ms Eckhardt is the school’s college counsellor and a PSHEE teacher. Read what she says below!

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am originally from Colorado in the US. I worked as counsellor in the US for 16 years and abroad for 8 in the UK, Germany and Thailand. I have two grown children—Mikhaila age 28 and Andrew age 26. I love to read and am also in the process of writing a young adult fantasy novel.

What made you come to Marymount?
I met a student several years ago whilst I was on a US university tour. She was in Grade 11 and told me how much she loved Marymount.

What’s something you’re interested in that people wouldn’t guess about you?
I love learning about European and British History and read a lot about it. I also love reading young adult fiction.

What do you do in your spare time?
I love to read and whenever possible write. I also love to travel and find obscure UK villages in the middle of nowhere.

If you had to describe yourself in three words, what would they be?
This one is hard… 😊…lifelong learner, kind, dedicated

What are you most looking forward to about being here?
I am really enjoying getting to know the Grade 11s and 12s in PSHEE classes and in 1:1 college counselling meetings. I am hoping I can also get to know the girls in the younger grades as well. I also am enjoying meeting and working with faculty and the leadership team. What I am looking forward to the most is helping students achieve their university goals by finding the best fit university for each individual.
