Why You Shouldn’t Make any New Year’s Resolutions

2022, a fresh start, a clean slate.

Are you going to lose weight, go to sleep earlier or get a new job? What are your New Year’s resolutions for this year? My advice: whatever they may be, take a piece of paper and a pen and write down a list of all your new resolutions. Now scrunch that piece of paper up and throw it in the trash. Yes you did read that correctly. Make sure that piece of paper is ripped up into tiny little pieces and then continue reading to find out exactly why you should NOT make any New Year’s resolutions for this year.

New Year’s is the time of the year in which we begin to dig deeper and deeper to find all the things that are wrong with our lives. Things that we desperately want to change for the upcoming year. Things that we’ve messed up and want to make up for.

New Year’s resolutions are complete crap. Sorry for the strong expression, but it’s the truth. They make us focus on all the “bad things” of the past year. Instead of beating ourselves up for all the things we could have done better, we should place our attention on all the good times of the year and the pleasant memories that we want to take with us into the New Year. Maybe you pulled an all nighter with your best friends, watched the sunset from your window during a night you couldn’t sleep or went on a trip you’ll never forget. In our busy lives we often forget about all the amazing moments we got to experience and I think that New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to reflect and treasure them.

A new year, does not mean a new beginning. You don’t have to wait until the first day of a new year to start a habit, hobby or set yourself a goal. You can start something new, any day of the year!

As life goes on, we tend to forget about all the magical moments of the year, so this year instead of making a New Year’s resolution (which no one really sticks to anyway!) be thankful for what 2021 has given you and make 2022 your best year yet!

These are just some of the many reasons as to why I don’t make any New Year’s resolutions.

Oh wait – actually there is one that I have: live in the moment, laugh more and really live life to the fullest!
